Libya has parted ways with Serbian coach Milutin Sredojevic, also known as Micho, just weeks before crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Micho’s dismissal comes after a poor start to Libya’s AFCON qualifying campaign. The North African team drew 1-1 at home against Rwanda and then suffered a 2-1 defeat to Benin away. With only one point from two matches, Libya currently sits at the bottom of Group D.
Micho, who took charge of Libya in October 2023, led the team to nine victories before the qualifiers began. Despite this record, he faced criticism over his team selections during the qualifiers.
Libya’s decision to fire Micho reflects the urgency of improving their AFCON qualifying performance. The upcoming matches against Nigeria will be pivotal in determining their chances of advancing to the tournament.
