Libya’s newly appointed coach, Nasser Al-Hadiri has quickly opened up about the situation of his team ahead of the AFCON qualifiers when they face the Super Eagles of Nigeria later this month in Uyo.
The gaffer who has only been on the job for about two weeks is convinced his side is not fully prepared to face the Super Eagles but hopes for a draw in the reverse tie in Tripoli on October 15.
In an interview with Libya News 24, Al-Hadiri admitted that the unavailability of the top stars has made it difficult for him to establish a comprehensive tactical plan for the qualifiers.
Among the injured Mediterranean Knights are Ahli Tripoli defender Ahmed Al-Tarbi, Al-Nasr’s Mohammed Al-Tabbal, and Ali Youssef, who are all set to miss the game.
“We have not yet reached the required level of readiness to face a strong team like Nigeria. The absence of several players in our first training sessions has made it difficult to establish a comprehensive tactical plan for the match,” Al-Hadiri said.
“This lack of preparation presents an additional challenge for the team, which will need to put in extra effort to secure a positive result away from home. Our aim is to at least return with a draw to keep our qualification hopes alive.”
In addition to the injured players, Hamdou El-Houni, Sand Al-Warfali, and Mohamed Al-Munir have also withdrawn from the squad in protest against the Football Federation.
“The team was not in good shape before I took over,” Al-Hadiri added.
The North Africans will be up against the Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Friday, 15 October, while the return leg is set to be in Tripoli four days later.
