Liverpool draw up new contracts for club duo amidst risk of leaving free in the summer

Reports claim Liverpool is keen to renew the contracts of club captain, and remarkable players at the club as they look set to begin negotiations with the Dutch international.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been offered a new contract, following an impressive start to the season which has seen them go top of the table, seven points clear of Arsenal and chelsea.

This is according to a report by The Athletic, however, with details of the contract not in public as of yet, it is believed the club is looking to signal its suppport to head coach, Arne Slot who considers the 33-year-old a leader of the group and an important member of his squad.

The defender, who earns £220,000-per-week, is amongst a trio of Liverpool stars at risk of being allowed to leave the club for free.

Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and the club’s highest earner Salah all have a few months remaining on their deals.

This deal is set to keep the Dutch defender beyond June nekt year, just as it is rumored the same type of deal – a one-year contract – will be handed to Mohammed Salah following a “willingess to extend”, the report adds.

The Egyptian winger’s future has taken precedence much lately in the media with multiple hints that his eight-year reign at Anfiled might be coming to an end.

Speaking after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Man city, he had been quoted saying:

“Honestly that’s what’s in my head — this is in all probability the last City game I will play for Liverpool so I am just going to enjoy it.”

“The atmosphere was incredible so I will enjoy every second here.”

While Salah and Van Dijk are on the other side of 30, both aren’t showing signs of slowing down soon.

Although Slot could want to bring in fresh faces in the summer, to revitalise the squad, he’s been credited more or less for picking up where Jurgen Klopp left off.
