Ademola Lookman Eyes 2024 CAF Player of the Year After Incredible Season

Ademola Lookman is in the running for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award, and he’s not taking his foot off the gas.

The 27-year-old forward says he’s driven to achieve even more in his already impressive career.

Lookman has had a remarkable year. He made history by scoring a hat-trick for Atalanta to help the club win the UEFA Europa League. On the international stage, his goals were crucial as the Super Eagles reached the final of the 2023 AFCON.

When asked about his chances of winning Africa’s top individual football prize, Lookman remained humble.

“Let’s hope and see,” he told Sporty TV. “I’m lucky to be in an environment like Atalanta that pushes me. My drive and the club’s ambitions match perfectly. I’ve been able to translate that same energy to my performances with Nigeria.”

Ademola Lookman is determined to keep working hard.

“For me, it’s about staying focused. There’s still so much to achieve. I just need to keep going, keep working hard, and good things will come. God willing, greatness is on the horizon.”

The 2024 CAF Player of the Year will be announced on Monday night in Marrakech, Morocco. Lookman will compete against Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Simon Adingra from Cote d’Ivoire, South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy.

Fans especially those of Nigerian descent are eager to see if Lookman can follow in the footsteps of Victor Osimhen, last year’s winner and fellow Super Eagles star, to become Africa’s top player.
