Playboy model Tabby Brown, who had previously dated Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli and known for her appearances in Playboy, Cosmopolitan, and Elle, tragically passed away in October 2023 after complications from a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery Ballgist Nigeria confirms.
The 38-year-old secretly traveled to the Dominican Republic for the procedure, misleading her family into believing she was on a South American tour.
Just three days after returning to the UK, Brown suffered a fatal fat embolism, a condition caused by fat entering the bloodstream, and was found collapsed at her south London home on October 13. Despite emergency medical efforts, she was pronounced dead at 1:30 am.
The South London Coroner’s Court confirmed that Brown had undergone liposuction and fat transfer surgery, with puncture wounds in her pelvis and fat globules found in her lungs.
Brown’s family paid tribute to her, emphasizing her successful career and vibrant personality. “Tabby was in good health, an avid fitness enthusiast, and a talented model who was loved by many,” her siblings shared.
The tragedy once again highlights the risks of BBL surgeries, which carry an alarmingly high mortality rate—over one death per 4,000 surgeries. While the procedure is cheaper abroad, it often exposes patients to unregulated medical practices.
This incident follows similar cases, including that of Demi Agoglia, a 26-year-old British mother who died in Turkey after undergoing a botched BBL.
To date, at least six British women have lost their lives to substandard cosmetic procedures abroad.
