Man Utd Transfer Signing: How Matheus Cunha Could Spark Amorim’s Tactical Revolution at Old Trafford

Manchester United face a defining summer after a disastrous Premier League season and a Europa League final collapse.

New head coach Ruben Amorim hasn’t held back in assessing the club’s decline. If United want to avoid another failed rebuild, they must nail this transfer window.

Enter Matheus Cunha.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward was their standout performer last season. He notched 40 goal involvements over the last two campaigns and could solve several problems at United.

Goals have been a major issue. United scored fewer than all but four Premier League teams last season—three of those were relegated.

Under Amorim’s 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 setup, Cunha fits perfectly. He played in a back-three system at Wolves, making his transition smoother.

Crucially, Cunha can play in the left-sided number 10 role. He’s dynamic, fearless, and takes responsibility—traits United’s current attack sorely lack.

Take April’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest. Cunha weaved past defenders from the edge of the box and smashed the ball into the top corner. That’s individual brilliance, something United desperately need.

United’s attack has grown stale. The build-up often ends with long passes to Rasmus Hojlund, who struggles to hold the ball. Creativity is missing.

Only Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho can beat defenders one-on-one. Garnacho’s potential departure would leave a void. Cunha fills it.

CUNHA’S BALL CARRYING ABILITY

He excels at ball-carrying. At Wolves, he regularly dropped deep to collect possession, dragged defenders out of position, and opened space for teammates.

Kobbie Mainoo once offered this vertical threat, but minutes have been limited. Amorim needs another player to link midfield to attack. Cunha offers that link.

His movement unlocks full-backs. He can receive deep, shrug off challenges, then release overlapping runners into space. This movement complements Amorim’s style; where full-backs attack with purpose.

Last December, Cunha scored directly from a corner as Wolves beat United 2-0. That cheeky finish underscored his vision, flair, and confidence.

Cunha brings qualities United lack; direct running, creative spark, and tactical intelligence. He can turn games and lift a struggling side.

Yes, he’s fiery, think young Wayne Rooney, but United need that edge.

If Amorim wants to impose his style quickly, Cunha could be the transfer that makes it work.
