‘Lookman Isn’t a Player You Can Sell’ — Inter Milan President Explains €50m Pursuit of CAF POTY Winner
Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has revealed why the club remains determined to sign Ademola Lookman, even after their opening €40 million bid was rejected by Atalanta.
The CAF Player of the Year is reportedly valued at €50 million, but Inter remain hopeful of securing the Nigerian forward’s signature and are preparing an improved €45 million offer.
Why Inter Are Still Chasing Lookman
While some questioned the financial logic of investing heavily in a player approaching 30, Marotta defended the move, stating that Lookman brings more than resale value.
“We all agree that, in football, you rarely win just with eleven talented players,” Marotta said, via Sempre Inter.
“Along with talent, you need experience. And you need very strong character. Lookman isn’t a player you can sell on for a profit. But he can give us the edge with his quality.”
Marotta emphasized that the Nigerian international’s impact would go beyond stats and transfers, citing his ability to mentor younger players and contribute with leadership on and off the pitch.
🔥 Lookman’s Growing Value
The 27-year-old played a crucial role for Atalanta last season, finishing as one of Serie A’s top performers and earning the CAF Player of the Year award. His performances have not only drawn praise but also interest from several European giants.
Despite the price tag, Inter appear determined to land the former RB Leipzig and Leicester City winger, whose blend of pace, skill, and experience could be a game-changer for the 20-time Serie A champions.
What Comes Next for the Inter and Ademola Lookman saga?
Inter are expected to return with an improved offer in the coming days, and negotiations remain open. Atalanta, however, are holding firm at €50 million, believing Lookman’s value to the squad is even greater than the number.
As the transfer window nears its final month, Lookman’s future remains one of the hottest talking points in Serie A.
