The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of 58-year-old German coach Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
Labbadia, who brings extensive experience from managing top Bundesliga clubs such as VfB Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen, and Wolfsburg, is set to lead Nigeria’s national team in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The Super Eagles will face Benin in Uyo on September 7 and then travel to Rwanda three days later.
NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi confirmed Labbadia’s appointment in a statement:
“The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its technical and development sub-committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the head coach of the Super Eagles,” he said. “The appointment is with immediate effect.”
Labbadia follows a line of German coaches who have managed the Super Eagles, including Karl-Heinz Marotzke (1970, 1974), Gottlieb Goller (1981), Manfred Hoener (1988-89), Berti Vogts (2007-08), and Gernot Rohr (2016-2021).
