After a most misguided denial by the NFF and several months’ delay, Nigeria’s women’s U20s, the Falconets, can now smile all the way to the bank as they have been paid outstanding bonuses and allowances for the 2022 World Cup in Costa Rica.
President Bola Tinubu approved a bail-out fund of 12 Billion Naira in January to clear the NFF huge indebtedness to the Super Eagles, Flying Eagles, the Golden Eaglets and the Falconets.
A top official informed Ballgist:
“The Falconets received their bonuses and allowances for the U20 World Cup in Costa Rica played two years ago.
“The NFF are working on the payments to the other national teams covered by this intervention fund.”
A team official of the Falconets, who benefitted from this payment, also confirmed this development.
The Falconets crashed out to the Netherlands 2-0 in the quarterfinal of the U20 World Cup.
The payment to the Falconets is a clear validation of a BALLGISTExclusive that the national teams have yet to be paid outstanding bonuses and allowances as approved by President Tinubu.
The NFF issued a needless press statement dismissing the BALLGIST factual story and insisting payments have been fully made.
