The representatives of Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim are now in talks with Aston Villa over the vacant position of a new manager, according to reports.
After less than a year in charge at the English club, manager Steven Gerrard was sacked on Thursday following a 3-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.
However, Villa won their match following the sacking of Gerrard, beating Brentford 4-0 in the weekend under current interim boss Aaron Danks.
The Telegraph report that the manager of the Portuguese club has emerged as one of the leading candidates on their shortlist, and their chances of hiring the highly regarded manager have been boosted by the fact that they would pay only a €10 million compensation of the €30 million rumoured.
Aston Villa currently sit 14th in the Premier League table and three points off the relegation zone after 12 matches played.
