BALLGISTNigeria can exclusively reveal that Jan Olof ‘Janne’ Andersson, former coach of Sweden, will be the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
At 61 years old, Andersson led Sweden from 2016 to 2023. During his tenure, he guided Sweden to the 2018 World Cup and the 2020 Euros but fell short in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Euros.
Notably, he has no experience coaching in Africa.
This announcement confirms a previous BALLGISTNigeria exclusive that the NFF has chosen a new coach outside the four initially shortlisted candidates: Herve Renard, Eric Chelle, Tom Saintfiet, and Steve McClaren.
The last Swedish coach to manage the Super Eagles was Lars Lagerback, who oversaw the team’s campaign at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they were eliminated in the group stage. Additionally, Swedish coach Thomas Denerby led the Super Falcons to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
