Eguavoen Successfully Undergoes Surgery, Ogunmodede Steps In for CHAN Eagles.

Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has successfully undergone major surgery in Belgium, BALLGISTNigeria has exclusively gathered.

Eguavoen reportedly delayed the procedure multiple times to focus on guiding Nigeria’s Super Eagles to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

In Eguavoen’s absence, Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede has been tasked with leading the CHAN Eagles as they face Ghana in a 2024 CHAN playoff showdown.

“It was a successful surgery, and he will now follow up with the usual recovery protocols,” a close source confirmed to BALLGISTNigeria.

Eguavoen, who currently serves as the NFF technical director, stepped into a temporary coaching role for the Super Eagles as the NFF continues its search for a foreign coach to lead the team through the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Despite health concerns, Eguavoen prioritized national duty, showcasing his dedication by delaying surgery to ensure Nigeria secured AFCON qualification. His leadership has been pivotal during the transitional phase.

Daniel Ogunmodede temporarily in charge, focus now shifts to the CHAN playoff against Ghana, where the Eagles will aim to secure a vital qualification spot.

Meanwhile, the NFF’s ongoing efforts to appoint a permanent foreign coach remain in the spotlight as preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers continue.
