The senior national team of Nigeria has suffered and been stormed with their biggest ever drop in the history of FIFA rankings after dropping from their last month’s position of 36th to 44th in the world, according to a report by OwnGoalNigeria.
The released rankings by the world football’s governing body after the last rounds of the international break in November showed the Super Eagles dropped one-place below in Africa as Algeria usurped their position to put them in 5th.
The astounding reason behind this drop metted is due to the mixed results suffered in the final rounds of games in the AFCON Qualifiers.
The Super Eagles had lost the last game at home to Rwanda and were held to a 1-1 draw in Cote d’Ivoire by the Benin Republic.
However, their previous remarkable showing had earned them qualification to next year’s AFCON, and the national team will now turn attention towards a return in March for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
