In a statement released on the club’s website, Antonio Conte was confirmed to have been relieved of his duties as head coach.
“We can announce that Head Coach Antonio Conte has left the Club by mutual agreement. We achieved Champions League qualification in Antonio’s first season at the Club. We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future.
Cristian Stellini will take the team as Acting Head Coach for the remainder of the season, along with Ryan Mason as Assistant Head Coach.” The statement read
Tottenham Hotspur Chairman, Daniel Levy said:
“We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters.”
Rumours about Conte’s potential dismissal have been flying about since the second half of the 2022/23 season. However, Conte’s fate seemed to have been sealed by his infamous rant following a disappointing 3 – 3 draw with Southampton after the London side saw a 3 – 1 lead slip away.
Despite a 71.4% win percentage at Bayern Munich, Julian Nagelsmann was sacked in favour of former Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, who was confirmed by the Bavarians as new head coach over the weekend. However, the former Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig boss might not be without a job for long as he is rumoured to be the prime candidate to take over from Conte.
