Wilfred Ndidi Set to Quit Leicester City for Bundesliga Move After Relegation

Wilfred Ndidi starrs for Leicester City.

Bundesliga Calling for Wilfred Ndidi

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is poised to leave Leicester City this summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, several Bundesliga clubs have expressed serious interest in the 28-year-old, making a move to Germany increasingly likely.

Ndidi, who joined Leicester from KRC Genk in 2017 for €17.6m, has made over 220 Premier League appearances, winning the 2021 FA Cup. However, with Leicester’s drop to the Championship, his modest £9 million relegation release clause has attracted suitors across Europe.

Why Germany? Dortmund & Leverkusen in the Frame

Reports suggest that Borussia Dortmund are exploring a deal as coach Niko Kovač seeks a robust defensive midfielder to anchor his new-look team.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen could also join the race, especially if captain Granit Xhaka departs this summer.

Ndidi’s physicality, ball-winning ability, and experience at the highest level make him a perfect fit for the high-intensity Bundesliga.

Premier League Interest Fading

While Manchester United and Everton had been linked earlier, it now appears Ndidi’s next chapter lies outside England.

Former Super Eagles star Julius Aghahowa recently claimed that Ndidi “still hopes for a big Premier League move”, but the Bundesliga offers European football and a fresh challenge at 28.

Ndidi by the Numbers (2024/25)

28 Premier League games
5 assists
3.1 tackles per match
66 caps for Nigeria

His consistency remains undeniable despite Leicester’s struggles, and his leadership in midfield could transform any top German side.

What Next?

Ndidi’s representatives are reportedly in talks with two Bundesliga clubs, with an official bid expected before the end of July.

A move could see him join fellow Africans like Victor Boniface in Germany, potentially reigniting his career in a competitive league.
