Liverpool set sights on Sofyan Amrabat as top transfer target

Sofyan Amrabat
Liverpool have identified Morocco and Fiorentina's midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as a top transfer target for the new year.

The 26-year-old was pivotal in the North African side’s run to a fourth-place finish at the just concluded FIFA World Cup and has been linked with a move away from Fiorentina.

Amrabat’s contract with Fiorentina expires in 2024, and his performance in the World Cup has put him on the radar of some top clubs.

According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is interested in bringing the midfielder to Anfield and the Reds have already contacted his representatives.

A deal could be struck by January if Liverpool can convince Fiorentina to sell him for €40m (£35m).

Tottenham were interested in bringing him in during the summer transfer window, with Antonio Conte an admirer of the talented midfielder.

Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are reportedly monitoring his progress and Amrabat – via Marca, has commented on Diego Simeone’s style.

I’m proud to be linked to top clubs like Barcelona and Atlético. But I’m a Fiorentina player, I respect the club and I’ve great relationship with the president,” Amrabat said. “Simeone? We have good coach at Fiorentina too but… yes, I like Cholo’s style.”
