Manchester United approve January move for Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo to Manchester United
Manchester United have reportedly started working on a move to sign Netherlands and PSV forward Cody Gakpo.

Manager Erik ten Hag, has been a long-term admirer of the forward from his time in the Eredivisie and has indicated interest in signing him since the summer.

The 23-year-old registered nine goals and 12 assists in the Eredivisie before the World Cup. He followed this up with three goals at the FIFA World Cup as the Oranges were eliminated in the quarter-final by eventual winners – Argentina.

Manchester United parted ways with Cristiano Ronaldo after his controversial interview with Piers Morgan and are left short of options upfront.

PSV Eindhoven have conceded to losing the player if their club record-breaking £45m valuation is met.

PSV manager and former Manchester United strikcer Ruud van Nistelrooy admitted earlier this week that:

“If I have the choice, I prefer [Gakpo to leave in] the summer, but it can also be now. You just know there comes a time when you can’t say no.”

Arsenal, Newcastle United and Real Madrid are also interested in his services but Manchester United remain in the driving seat.
