Graham Potter admits full responsibility for poor Chelsea performances

The Blues have lost their last six games for the first time in ten years, putting pressure on Potter, who only took over six-months ago.

Graham Potter has admitted that he “can’t rely on support forever” following Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday. This result meant the Blues have lost their last eight Premier League away games for the first time since 2001 and currently sit tenth in the table.

“If results aren’t good enough, which they aren’t at the moment, you can’t rely on support forever, that’s for sure,” the former Brighton manager told Sky Sports.

“My job is to keep going, to keep working with the team and try and change that. The players are hurting. They are giving everything and want the results to get better, I can feel it in the dressing room.”

“Whenever you hear those results [stats], I hold the responsibility. They are not good enough for this club, not good enough for us. We are not happy with them”.

“We have to understand the moment we are in. At the same time, I take full responsibility for those results. It isn’t good enough for Chelsea, that’s for sure. We want to try and improve it,” he admitted.

“I thought the players gave it everything, no complaints from how they were, it’s just that the goal changes the complexion of the game and that made it difficult for us.”

Chelsea suffered the ninth defeat of the season in the Premier League at the hands of London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur with a stunning strike from midfielder Oliver Skipp on the stroke of halftime, who in recent times have had to deputize for Uruguayan teammate, Rodrigo Bentacur.

The West London outfit failed to create clear-cut chances all through the game, with just two shots on target which seemed insufficient to turn the game around.

In the 82nd minute, all-time Spurs leading goal scorer, Harry Kane turned in a beautiful flicked-on header by Eric Dier heading for the far post from a corner swung in by Heung Min Son to make it 2-0 at home ensuring the run of 13-games unbeaten to Chelsea came to an end.

Harry Kane now has (18) Eighteen premier league goals for Spurs this season with his best ever tally in the 2017/18 season at (30) thirty goals.

The Blues manager will hope that the club’s ever-confident owners continue to put their faith in him as he attempts to address the issue of poor performance from an already-invested squad.
