Erik ten Hag’s side host Bayern Munich in the final clash in Group A next in the knowledge that they need a win to stand any chance of progressing.
However, their hopes will also hinge on Copenhagen vs Galatasaray with the Red Devils needing those sides to draw if they’re to make it to the last 16.
The Red Devils knew that had plenty of work to do going into the clash in Istanbul, but early signs suggested that they were up for the fight.
Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring for the Red Devils as he emulated Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘calma calma’ celebration in front of the boisterous home support, before a Bruno Fernandes stunner made it 2-0.
Hakim Ziyech then squeezed a free-kick past Andre Onana, before Scott McTominay put Erik ten Hag’s side back in control in the second half.
But Chelsea loanee, Ziyech clawed another back for Galatasaray with Onana letting the free-kick slip through his fingers.
The Turkish giants then drew the game level through Muhammed Kerem Akturkoglu who scored with a glorious, bullet effort which beat Onana at the near post.
The Man United goalkeeper will feel that he could have done better with all three Galatasaray goals, but for the Premier League side, they could now be counting the cost of a disastrous group stage campaign.
