Former and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas draws a contrast between Manchester United’s period under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and their current boss Erik ten Hag.
Cesc Fabregas isn’t holding back on his views about Manchester United’s current state under Erik ten Hag, contrasting it starkly with the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer days.
According to Fabregas, United had their game on lock with a clear game plan under Ole, but now, things seem to be unraveling without a clear strategy under Ten Hag.
Fabregas Calls Out United’s Strategy Shift
Dishing out his thoughts on the Planet Premier League podcast, Fabregas pointed out the stark differences between the two managerial eras, saying, “I have to say as well that I don’t know the numbers, but with Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] there were some good big games.”
“They used to have a structure, they had a plan. At least you saw a plan, which was to defend well and have great breaks and this is exactly what Manchester United don’t have at the moment.” It’s a clear nod to the past when United had a discernible approach to their game, something Fabregas feels is missing now.
With Solskjaer’s tenure marked by a clear identity, despite its challenges, Fabregas’s critique shines a spotlight on United’s current tactical ambiguity under Ten Hag.
Manchester United are eleven points behind Aston Villa as they slip away in the battle to make top for. It is left to be seen if the new owners will stick with Ten Hag in the summer but he needs to arrest the rot after back to back losses to Fulham and Manchester City.
