Rivers United secures victory, advances to CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals

Rivers United will continue to fly Nigeria’s flag in the CAF Confederation Cup after they beat Dreams FC of Ghana 2-1 at home and bottom team APC Lobito of Angola did the a massive favour by holding Club Africain in Tunisia to a draw in Tunis.

Rivers United thus finished second in Group C on 12 points from six matches after group winners Dreams FC enjoyed a better goals difference.

Lobito of Angola pulled off a major surprise in Tunisia where they forced home team Club Africain to a 1-1 draw.

The Tunisians finished in third place on 10 points, while Lobito were bottom with a point.

Rivers United had to fight back from an Abdul Aziz Issah in the 40th minute to win at home.

Echeta Deputy drew the Port Harcourt level in the 61st minute, before Kazie Godswill fired the priceless match winner with virtually the last kick of the game.
