Rivers United face CAF Confederation Cup holders USM Algiers for semifinal spot

Rivers United were today handed a tough CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal against holders USM Algiers of Algeria.

The draws for the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals have been automatically fixed following the two best teams’ qualifications from the group stage.

The competition, which is composed of domestic cup winners from all 54 CAF member associations and the third-placed-finished clubs in their various domestic leagues from the top twelve-ranked leagues in the continent, is set to go ahead between March 31 and April 7, 2024.

NPFL side Rivers United has been matched against USM Algiers of the Algerian Ligue, based in the suburbs of Algiers, Algeria.

The Niger Delta side will host the first leg in Nigeria in March, while a return leg will be played on April 7, in Algeria.

They remain the only Nigerian club to have qualified for this year’s second-qualifying stage in the tournament. No Nigerian club has been known to have won this competition since it was founded in 2004.

The other quarterfinals to be played are against:

Future FC (Egypt) vs Zamalek (Egypt)

Abu Salim (Libya) vs RS Berkane (Morocco)

Stade Malien (Mali) vs Dreams FC (Ghana)
