Amad Diallo addresses the criticism surrounding the deactivation of his social media account, clarifying the reasons behind his decision.
Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has fueled speculation from fans after it was observed that the player deleted every photo and post about Manchester United across Instagram and Twitter.
This comes to light after rumours of a fallout between the player and the club due to the Ivorian not being used during matchdays and having only made three substitute appearances since recovering from a knee injury in December.
Last season, despite impressing on loan at Sunderland – scoring 14 goals in 43 matches – and being expected to compete for a first-team place at United this season, the winger is yet to make a significant impression for Manchester United.
Now it appears the 21-year-old frustration over his lack of game time appears to be boiling over.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, the player’s bio was changed to read “this will all end” in French, with his profile picture and cover photo showing Amad in action for Sunderland last season.
Meanwhile, on Instagram, Amad deleted all but three posts from his feed. Those remaining snaps were from his time at the Stadium of Light.
Diallo then appeared to deactivate both his accounts as transfer guru Fabrizio Romano posted a tweet quoting the attacker from Snapchat.
It read: “I’ve deactivated my social media for a month just to focus on Ramadan.”
“Stop the hatred, there’s nothing wrong with what I did. It’s holy month for me and social media is a place where there are bad things to see during fasting.”
Diallo joined United from Atalanta for £35million in 2021, but currently have less than 18 months on his current deal with the club with an option to extend his contract for a further season.
Speaking last month, Erik ten Hag admitted that Antony ‘hasn’t shown his big potential’ at Old Trafford while opening the door for Diallo to take his spot.
“He has to prove a point, that he will do. And he has big potential. He hasn’t shown it lately, but I know what his talent is, and it’s about proving his talent, and it’s about him. And, yeah, he will probably get his opportunities, right? But, yeah, I think that was always the idea,” he said.
“You have competition, and now he has to show himself on the training pitch, but also others because we have opportunities there. With [Amad] Diallo returning from an injury, he’s doing well in the training.
“Omari Forson is doing well. So, we have options to fill in those positions. And it’s not set that Marcus Rashford has to play as a centre forward.”
