Maurizio Sarri has decided to resign at Lazio as a result of their poor form, communicating his decision to the club’s management.
Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has left the steering wheels of the Italian club Lazio after failing to lead them to a successful campaign following their loss of form.
Tensions were high after the full-time, whistle and the squad were booed off the pitch by the remaining fans.
The Italian manager spent just one season at Chelsea after replacing Antonio Conte in 2018. However, he left Stamford Bridge just after a single season, walking out with a Europa League trophy.
Frank Lampard would replace Sarri, who went on to join Juventus.
With Juve, he won the league title but again, his reign lasted no more than a full season after he was sacked in October 2020.
Sarri had a one-year sabbatical before returning to the dugout with Lazio.
But for the first time since his days with Napoli, Sarri walks out on the side without any silverware.
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Calciomercato.com and La Lazio Siamo Noi, Sarri has decided to call it quits at Lazio and has communicated his decision to resign, immediately leaving his post at the club.
Sarri had a tense meeting with the squad following their loss to Udinese, where he tried to understand their collapse in form.
Whilst none of the players spoke up to ask him to leave, none pushed for him to stay either, prompting him to hand in his resignation.
Lazio however are yet to officially confirm Sarri’s departure but according to Rudy Galetti, former player Tommaso Rocchi is on the list of potential replacements.
