Super Eagles legend John Obi Mikel teams up with Ronaldo as part of an elite punditry team set to light up coverage of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The tournament, which kicks off this weekend in the United States, will see the John Obi Mikel and Cristiano Ronaldo offer expert analysis for global broadcaster DAZN.
According to the Daily Mail, Mikel and Brazilian icon Ronaldo headline DAZN’s panel, which also features Newcastle striker Callum Wilson and World Cup-winning German midfielder Sami Khedira. Together, this high-profile squad will provide in-depth analysis throughout the competition.
DAZN, the official global rights holder for the Club World Cup, aims to elevate its broadcast with a mix of legendary insight and contemporary football expertise. Alongside the core team, Andros Townsend and Brad Friedel will support the coverage from the commentary box.
Obi Continues Post-Retirement Rise
This new role marks another milestone in Mikel’s flourishing post-football media career. Since retiring, the former Chelsea midfielder has remained firmly in the spotlight, building a reputation for thoughtful and insightful football analysis.
He hosts The Obi One Podcast, where he has held exclusive interviews with football icons like Jose Mourinho, Yaya Toure, Joe Cole, Victor Osimhen, Carlo Ancelotti, and even Olympic legend Usain Bolt. Mikel has also been a regular on beIN Sports, offering analysis on Champions League and Premier League fixtures.
With his DAZN debut now set for the FIFA Club World Cup, Mikel continues to prove he’s as influential off the pitch as he was on it. While it’s yet unclear whether he’ll cover the opening clash between Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami and Egyptian giants Al Ahly on June 14, he is widely expected to feature during Chelsea’s tournament opener against Los Angeles FC on June 16.
