Alhassan Yusuf shrugs off injury scare, receives Jose Peseiro’s praise

The Royal Antwerp midfielder will return for the clash against Ivory Coast on Thursday following an injury scare on his debut.

Head Coach Jose Peseiro has personally singled out Antwerp midfielder Alhassan Yusuf, who replaced Wilfred Ndidi in the starting line-up following his injury, as the best player in the aftermath of their draw against Equatorial Guinea yesterday.

Nigeria survived a scare after conceding first to The Elephants of Equatorial Guinea in the 36th minute, through a goal from Victor Osimhen in the 38th minute from an inch-perfect cross played in by Atalanta star and teammate Ademola Lookman.

Frustrated by the fact that his team could not make the most of the numerous chances they created, Peseiro was asked about the injury suffered by debutant Alhassan Yusuf, who caught the eyes of many fans through his energetic display and the Portuguese didn’t waste the opportunity to sing praises for the 23-year-old.

“Alhassan [Yusuf] had a very good match, he showed that he deserves to play for the Super Eagles, and I hope that he will be fit for the next match because you want your best players available and he was for us today”, he said, speaking at the post-match conference.

In another relieving video seen on social media, Yusuf confirmed he only suffered cramps and is expected to feature in the game against Ivory Coast come Thursday.

“Nothing serious, I had cramps and I will be fine for Thursday”, the midfielder said.
