Newcastle United have completed the transfer of winger Anthony Gordon from Everton, making him the club’s second most expensive signing.
The club on Sunday announced the signing of the Evertonian on a long-term deal for a fee that could reportedly rise to £45 million ($56 million).
This was confirmed via a statement on the club’s social media page, welcoming the 21-year-old to St. James Park.
Gordon, who made his Premier League debut for Everton in January 2020, becomes Eddie Howe’s first signing of this January transfer window as the third-placed Magpies bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season.
The young forward was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer while Thomas Tuchel was still manager in order to add options to his frontline but, a move ultimately fell through with the Blues unprepared to meet Everton’s asking price.
He becomes the latest in the Toffee’s squad to leave after such a disappointing season, following the dismissal of manager Frank Lampard.
