Aston Villa and Unai Emery set sights on Matteo Guendouzi

Aston VIlla are interested in the services of Matteo Guendouzi and the Marseille midfielder has reportedly spoken with Villa coach Unai Emery.

These reports are according to Foot Mercato who claim that Emery is keen on a reunion with the former Arsenal midfielder.

Although, there is no offer on the table from Villa yet, Marseille will only sell Guendouzi for a fee of about €30million (£26.5million).

Emery and Guendouzi’s relationship dates back to their time at Arsenal where the Spanish gaffer signed the young French talent shortly after taking charge of the London club.

Guendouzi joined Arsenal from Lorient for a fee of £8million and impressed while Emery was Arsenal manager before a strained relationship with Mikel Arteta ultimately saw an end to his time at Arsenal.

The 23-year-old has gone on to make a positive impression at Marseille and was included in the France squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

If he eventually joins Aston Villa, he could be playing alongside Boubacar Kamara who was his former teammate at Marseille.

Aston Villa – who are currently 11th in the Premier League, will be keen on a finish in the top-half of the table.
