Barcelona appear set to enter the January transfer window in search of a new midfielder to cover for and compete with captain Sergio Busquets.

It has resulted in recent links with several players, with Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves emerging as one of the most likely candidates. However, according to reports in Brazil, Vasco da Gama’s teenage sensation Andrey Santos is a target for Barcelona.

Barcelona sporting director Jordi Cruyff is ‘working on’ signing Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos. Former Barcelona scout Andre Cury will be involved in the deal for the 18-year-old. Premier League club Newcastle are still interested in Santos and may make a move in January.

Barcelona are interested in signing Andrey Santos in January. However, they face competition from Newcastle United who were set on making a €35 million move for Santos in the summer before opting against it. Reports suggest that they are still interested in the wonderkid and could make a move for him come January.

Andrey Santos signed a new long-term deal with Vasco da Gama until 2027. The new contract includes a €40 million release clause and new suitors will have to meet this fee.

However, Barcelona are considering reducing the fee by allowing him to remain on loan at the club until June 2023. It remains to be seen whether this strategy would work out for the Blaugrana.
