Lionel Messi still in talks with PSG over contract extension

According to RMC Sport, talks between Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain over a contract extension beyond the end of the current season are still ongoing, though various details remain to be worked out.

There has been an agreement in principle in place for the last few weeks, but the length of the new contract, as well as the salary, have yet to be worked out.

It is believed the World Cup winner wants to renew on conditions not too dissimilar to those of Kylian Mbappé, but PSG are unwilling to give in to all of his demands.

Another talk making the rounds has been his desire to return to Barcelona and it may seem to be that the Parisien chiefs believe Messi is unlikely to stay at the Parc des Princes beyond this season.

90min report that the former Barcelona player has had talks with Barcelona in recent weeks bearing any reunion becoming a likely outcome with Barca vice-president Rafa Yuste admitting last week that the club are ‘in contact’ with the forward and his entourage.

Messi is back to his best on the pitch this season, after a difficult first year in the French capital – he now has 13 goals and 13 assists in Ligue 1 so far.

However, not everyone at the club is convinced about keeping him on board, given some want a change from the current trio attacking trident in the squad and a desire to build around Mbappé.
