Manchester City & Guardiola suffered a fifth straight loss, marking his worst run of defeats in his career, as his Manchester City side were battered by Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.
This was City’s biggest home loss under Guardiola, and it ended their club-record 52-game unbeaten run.
A brace from James Maddison fired the visitors into a comfortable first-half lead at the Etihad Stadium. It piled the misery on the Premier League champions, who had already lost their last four matches in all competitions.
Of those defeats, one came against Spurs in the Carabao Cup last month. Another against Bournemouth, Sporting and Brighton from their last PL match.
Despite a run of poor form, the Manchester faithfuls renewed their trust in the Spaniard – who had taken them to lift 18 trophies in all competitions since the start of his tenure – as Guardiola penned a new deal this week through to the summer of 2027.
However, the news failed to inspire City, as they fell 2-0 down inside the opening quarter of the match. Then things got worse when Pedro Porro made it 3-0 and Brennan Johnson made it four in injury time.
It becomes the first time in 18 years City suffered so many consecutive defeats with Sunday’s defeat also sealing their first-ever three-game league defeats under the former Barcelona manager.
