Lionel Messi will be sidelined for tomorrow’s Champions League match against Benfica due to a minor calf injury, according to Paris Saint-Germain’s announcement this afternoon.
The Argentine had been substituted with ten minutes to go in last week’s match in Lisbon, in which he scored the opener.
The ensuing calf issue ruled him out of this weekend’s goalless draw against Reims. His absence from training this morning has meant that he will not be able to recover in time for tomorrow, with the club preferring not to take any risks with the 35-year-old’s fitness.
Among the other injury absences for the Ligue 1 champions, Presnel Kimpembe is continuing his recovery from a hamstring injury in a clinic in Qatar, where he has been for the past few weeks after picking up the knock in the match against Brest.
Nuno Mendes is also sidelined with a hamstring issue, while Renato Sanches is expected to return to full training sessions during the week.
