After both clubs indicated their willingness to match Villarreal’s £45 million asking price, Pau Torres is said to prefer a move to Manchester United over Tottenham. In the following weeks, the Spanish international defender is one of Europe’s hottest properties and has drawn interest from numerous Premier League clubs.
Torres has made it onto the shortlists of both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Chelsea and Manchester City.
However, according to Cadena Ser, United and Tottenham have already made £45 million offers for the player this summer, leaving the decision in the player’s hands.
The report goes on to say that the 25-year-old prefers Old Trafford to a move to north London, which might give United the edge they need to seal the deal.
United, on the other hand, appear to be undecided about going all out for Torres, with Jurrien Timber also on their radar.
Erik ten Hag and the United leadership are expected to make a decision in the coming days about which centre-back to pursue.
Torres had the option of joining Tottenham Hotspur last summer, but he chose to stay with Villarreal after they qualified for the Champions League.
It was a choice he did not regret, as The Yellow Submarine advanced to the semi-finals of this year’s edition, where they were defeated by Liverpool.
