Real Madrid eyes Brighton’s De Zerbi to replace Ancelotti after Perez’s eye-catching shortlist

Real Madrid spots Brighton's manager Roberto De Zerbi amongst other coaches as a replacement for outgoing Carlo Ancelotti next summer.

Brighton and Hove Albion manager, Roberto de Zerbi is reportedly on Real Madrid’s managerial shortlist as they eye a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, as per reports.

The Italian’s second spell at the Bernabeu is set to end in the summer of 2024 after it was confirmed that he would take over as the new manager of Brazil.

Ancelotti has been at Los Blancos for the past two years, leading them to the Champions League in 2022 and a league triumph in his first year back, but will now part company with the Spanish giants.

According to Cadena SER, Brighton boss, Roberto De Zerbi is a second alternative on the Los Blancos books, given the excellent form that the Seagulls have shown under the Italian.

De Zerbi has performed an outstanding job at the AmEx Stadium since taking over a year ago from Graham Potter, who had departed for Chelsea. The Italian has not only built on Potter’s previous work, leading Brighton into Europe but has also made them one of the most watchable sides in the Premier League.

He has also been linked with the Stamford Bridge club should Mauricio Pochettino fails there.

A previous report by TEAMTALK suggests that on the list of favourites to replace the Los Blancos boss, a recurrent name appears which is of former Los Blancos, Xabi Alonso.

Xabi Alonso, who now manages German side, Bayer Leverkusen, led them to a sixth-placed finish last year, earning them a spot in the Europa League. He has also helped them continue their fantastic form into the new season, sitting 2nd on the log behind Bayern Munich with no losses across all competition.

For De Zerbi, his team has already accumulated 15 points in just six games this season, with the Seagulls also having an outstanding start to the season. They currently place third in the Premier League standings.

Before his arrival in the Premier League, many pundits thought his coming would be a big gamble due to his lack of experience in the league. however, De Zerbi has shown he could as well be one of the best tacticians in football today.

He has only ever managed Shakhtar Donetsk, Sassuolo, Benevento, Palermo, and Foggia before Premier League side, Brighton.

In light of this, Brighton, of course, will be desperate to keep hold of him as he is under contract until June 2026.
