Pep Guardiola explains Erling Haaland’s struggles in Manchester derby

Manchester City manager has revealed the reason for Erling Haaland's struggles in the match against neighbours Manchester United.

The Cityzens fell 2 – 1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford after initially holding the advantage through Jack Grealish’s 60th minute goal.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes and an in-form Marcus Rashford ensured the Red Devils moved to within one-point of their neighbours.

Speaking after the match, Guardiola admitted that Haaland needed to be more effective against teams that set up with a low block. He however expressed confidence in the Norwegian’s ability to adapt to their style.

Speaking to reporters Guardiola said: “At the moment we have that process because when teams are sat in their 18-yard box, it is more difficult but we have to find him a little bit more, yes. (Against United) he had enough touches but it’s true that when you are looking at areas and you have to look at him. But we will do it.”

Haaland sits firmly at the top of the Premier League goalscorers chart with 21 goals scored. However, the 22-year-old has failed to score in his last three games.

Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday as they look to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal.
