Rasmus Hojlund ends Premier League drought after scoring winner in comeback victory

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund embodied pure passion as he finally scored his first Premier League goal.

Rasmus Hojlund broke his Premier League duck on his 15th appearance as Manchester United battled back from two goals down to beat Aston Villa 3-2.

It capped off a remarkable turnaround for Man United having found themselves 2-0 down at half time through goals by John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker.

But two second-half strikes by Alejandro Garnacho and Hojlund’s clever close-range finish saw Erik ten Hag’s men go from despair to delight on Boxing Day.

Despite netting five in the Champions League this term, £72million man Hojlund has become something of a laughing stock having fired a blank in his first 14 Premier League appearances.

Much like the rest of his Man United teammates, the 20-year-old cut a dejected figure in the first half as they found themselves two goals down.

It led to chants of, ‘sacked in the morning’ from the travelling Villans contingent at Old Trafford, but those were well and truly silenced by the end of the night.

The Red Devils came roaring back in the second half, spearheaded by livewire Garnacho who slotted home from close range just before the hour to halve Man United‘s deficit.

Garnacho then made it 2-2 as his left-footed effort deflected beyond Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez on 71 minutes. Then it was Hojlund’s big moment.

After a corner was swung in from the right, the ball rather fortuitously bounced to Hojlund, but the former Atalanta man did brilliantly to steer it past Martinez and in-off the post to send the Man United faithful wild.
