AFCON MVP William Ekong will not play again this season after he ruptured biceps in his right leg and will have to undergo surgery.

The loss of Troost-Ekong is a significant blow to the Paok defence and their hopes for a successful campaign this season.

Ballgist can confirm, per reports, that he said he will now undergo surgery in Finland tomorrow.

The PAOK defender Ekong played through the pain barrier as the Super Eagles went all the way to the AFCON Final against hosts Cote d’Ivoire earlier this month

The experienced central defender, who has been the Super Eagles stand-in captain, played all but one of the seven games of the Super Eagles at the AFCON.

His performance for the team’s defence and overall performance in the tournament​​​​ earned him player of the tournament.
