Standard Liege vs Anderlecht match ends prematurely shortly after halftime

The Belgian league game between Standard Liege and Anderlecht on Sunday was brought to a premature end with only an hour played.

The final whistle was blown after away fans repeatedly threw items onto the pitch.

The match was first interrupted in the 57th minute, when Anderlecht fans hurled flares and seats from the stands with hosts Standard leading 3-1.

Play restarted 15 minutes later but was soon stopped again as Anderlecht supporters continued to chuck items onto the playing surface.

Anderlecht, the record 34-time Belgian champions, are off to the club’s worst start since 1930. They have lost eight of 14 games and sit 12th in the top flight.
