Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali did not secure a major transfer this summer, opting instead to extend his contract with Chippa United for an additional three years. This decision came after the offers he received did not meet his expectations.
Chippa United chairman Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi confirmed that his club was in discussions with both Kaizer Chiefs and Amazulu from the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) regarding Nwabali. However, these negotiations did not lead to a transfer.
Mpengesi revealed that Amazulu’s offer was significantly below expectations.
“It was never about the price, there were two clubs who were interested,” he said. “One of them was Amazulu, but they were offering peanuts. They wanted us to give them Nwabali for that amount, that was disrespect.”
Regarding Kaizer Chiefs, Mpengesi stated that while discussions were held, the team eventually signed another goalkeeper.
“There were talks we had with Kaizer Chiefs towards the end of the season, but we saw them signing another goalkeeper,” he explained. “For Kaizer Chiefs, we were going to give them Nwabali, and the price was not even high. We were more looking at the interest of the player, you know, he was going to play for a big club.”
Despite the missed opportunities for a high-profile transfer, Nwabali’s extended commitment to Chippa United highlights his dedication to the club and his confidence in their future.
