Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has been identified as one of the primary candidates to take over from Gerrard.
Steven Gerrard was signed with so much expectation after leading Rangers to their first league win in 10 years but it has not worked out well for the former Liverpool captain at Villa.
Aston Villa went on an impressive run after Gerrard joined as they won three of their first four matches. Thereafter, the Villans have only managed consecutive victories on two occasions. In fact, they finished the season three places lower than they had under Dean Smith.
In addition to this, the new season has not started any better for them. The Villans are currently 16th on the Premier League table, with only two wins from their opening 10 games of the season.
Reports from The Telegraph suggests that Pochettino has been identified as the likely successor.
However, Gerrard’s side play twice this week (away at Fulham, and at home to Brentford). It is believed that the outcome of these matches will decide Gerrard’s fate.
