West Ham reaches agreement to sign Manchester United’s Harry Maguire

After their £20m bid for Harry Maguire was rejected last month, West Ham has officially reached an agreement to acquire United's centre back Maguire.

West Ham United has sealed a deal for the signing of Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire for a fee in the region of £30 million.

The Hammers are actively reinforcing their roster following the departure of English midfielder Declan Rice to Arsenal for a noteworthy £105 million and Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta for £21.5 million.

After falling out of favour at Old Traford, the ex-United captain has agreed to move to a new club to revive his career. Maguire faced challenges securing consistent playing time at Old Trafford in the previous season and has been relieved of his captaincy duties for the current season.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio has confirmed a verbal agreement between both clubs has been reached for the Englishman, subject to final key points and deal structure for the player and club.

Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City in August 2019, setting a world record fee of £80 million for a defender on the back of winning the Premier League under the reigns of Claudio Ranieri at the time.

However, during the past season, he has participated in no more than 30 matches for United with a mere eight league starts across all competitions. He had conceivably slipped to the fifth option for the central defense position at Old Trafford, with Lisandro Martinez, Rafael Varane, Victor Lindelof, and Luke Shaw ranking ahead.

In spite of his trials at Manchester United, Maguire maintained his regular presence in the England squad under the guidance of Gareth Southgate notably starting all five matches in the 2022 World Cup.

United have welcomed three new signings to their ranks this summer – Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount – and the priority is now shifting to offload stars deemed surplus to requirement at the club.
