Andy Robertson has revealed what he said to Darwin Nunez at half-time during their win against Ajax last night.
Liverpool beat the Eredivisie giants in their Champions League group clash, courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliot. The win confirmed Liverpool’s place in this season’s UCL round of 16 with a game to go.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will now face Napoli in their final Group A fixture at Anfield next Tuesday. Liverpool will need to win by a four-goal scoreline in order to finish top spot to overcome the 4-1 defeat they were handed in Naples in September.
Nunez’s goal came from a Robertson corner just few minutes into the second half. Shortly before the interval, the Uruguayan missed a relatively easy chance to put Liverpool 2-0 in front, and Robertson has explained how the striker reacted in the dressing room.
“We had control. Darwin came in at half-time really angry at himself for missing that chance,” Robertson told BT Sport.
“I was sitting next to him in the changing room, I don’t know if he understood what I said but I said I’ll put a cross in and you will score no problem. Maybe I need to say that more often.
“When we got the second goal obviously a two-goal cushion is dangerous but it’s also nice, and we followed that up with a lovely goal from Harvey.”
