Eric Ten Hag praises Jadon Sancho after scoring on Man United return

Jadon Sancho scored his first Premier League goal in nearly four months as Manchester United drew 2-2 with Leeds at Old Trafford.

Erik Ten Hag heaped praise on Jadon Sancho, calling him as a “magnificent player” after he scored for Manchester United on his return to the Premier League.

Sancho had not played in the league since October due to “physical and mental” issues, but came on as a substitute against Leeds on Wednesday and scored to take United on to a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

“I wanted a different dynamic,” Ten Hag told the BBC when asked about his decision to bring Sancho on in the second half.”

“In that moment we weren’t in the game. Luckily it succeeded because we scored two goals. Very happy. He’s all the way back.”

“We know he’s a magnificent player. I think consistently he can have a big impact. But he has to work hard. It will motivate him to get more. I really enjoyed it, especially for him. It will strengthen him.”

“If you play a derby you need a different attitude. You have to start and be ready and take responsibility, win your battles and be composed on the ball.”

Leeds United fired head coach Jesse Marsch earlier this week after losing to relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest away from home, leaving the club in the relegation battle.

They sit 16th on the log, one point above the relegation zone, while United remain locked on 3rd, seven points behind Arsenal. The two sides will meet again on Sunday at Elland Road in Gameweek 23 of the Premier League.
