Following the 2-0 defeat suffered at the hands of the Eagles of Mali during the just-concluded international break, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped from 28th to 30th in the latest updated ranking released by the world football governing body FIFA last Thursday.Â
Recall Nigeria had won Ghana 2-1 before the defeat against Mali. The points gained from the win over Ghana weren’t enough to keep up the spot due to the fact that the Super Eagles rank higher than the Black Stars of Ghana in the FIFA rankings.Â
It means Nigeria lost more points than gained, but regardless they will retain their spot as the third-best team in Africa behind Morocco (13th) and Senegal (17th).Â
Egypt (37th), Cote d’Ivoire (38th) and Tunisia (41st) round up the rest of the top five in the African tournament.Â
Meanwhile, world champions Argentina remain the number one ranked nation, followed by France, Belgium, England and Brazil.
The next FIFA world ranking will be released on June 20, 2024.
