Sporting Lagos forward, Jonathan Alukwu on the verge of a move abroad

Jonathan Alukwu is on the verge of dumping the Nigeria Premier Football League side, Sporting Lagos for a move abroad.

Jonathan Alukwu of Sporting Lagos aka. “Barbie Boy”, is on the verge of completing a move to Austrian outfit Lask Linz, according to several reports.

The forward has been rumoured to forcing a way out to move abroad in previous weeks, due to the increasing interest from multiple European clubs.

Reports gathered have shown that the 20-year-old’s representatives have reached an agreement to move the Nigerian-born striker to the Admiral Bundesliga league – a league Erling Haaland of Manchester City thrived in – and it is expected to be completed in the coming days.

Alukwu has contributed seven goals in seventeen appearances for the newly promoted NPFL club, scoring 6 goals in that incredible debut run.

He currently tops the goal scorers chart for Sporting Lagos with six goals while his partnership with the former NPFL top scorer, Junior Lokosa, has produced nine goals so far for the club.

Alukwu’s purported move is going to be a big blow to the struggling coach Paul Offor’s side with the club still battling to escape relegation after a run of poor results in the NPFL.

A user on X, formerly known as Twitter, has confirmed the move will be completed in a couple of days.

“Sporting Lagos’s Jonathan Alukwu is set to join Lask Linz in the Austria League. The deal should be completed and confirmed in couple of days time,” the account read.

However, as seen on social media, the player has quickly responded to the rumour but doesn’t seem to have debunked it.

“.. me way get home match today Ahbi another person day answer Jonathan Alukwu 🤣,” his comment read.

Sporting Lagos currently sits 14th on the log after 21 games this season.

Although the Western club has recruited former Shooting Stars hitman, Samuel Ayanrinde – as a replacement for the club’s top scorer – the former Calabar Rovers and Heartland FC player will be greatly missed.
