Aston Villa join Newcastle United and Arsenal in race for winger Moussa Diaby

Aston Villa are said to be interested in signing 49-goal Bayer Leverkusen winger, Moussa Diaby, who is also a target for Newcastle United and Arsenal.

The 24-year-old is considered one of the brightest prospects in Bundesliga and could be a shrewd addition to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side.

The Spanish manager joined Aston Villa in October 2022 and took them from the relegation battle to a seventh-place finish.

Because of this, Emery has been rewarded with a hefty budget to purchase his desired players, and the club are close to sealing a deal for the highly-rated Pau Torres.

Emery and his team have now set their sights on Diaby, who is ready to leave the German league for Premier League football.

Diaby has made 172 appearances for Leverkusen since signing in 2019, scoring 49 goals and assisting another 48.

Newcastle United are also in the market for a winger and have expressed interest in signing Harvey Barnes from Leicester City. The Magpies might miss out on acquiring the French winger if they reach an agreement with Leicester City on Barnes.

Bayer Leverkusen have put a hefty £50m tag on Diaby, which is well above Aston Villa’s record transfer fee (£38m, which they paid for Emiliano Buendia in 2021).

It remains to be seen whether Villa will break the bank to sign Moussa Diaby in the coming weeks.
