After losing Riyad Mahrez to Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli for £30 million, City have targeted Rennes forward, Jeremy Doku as a possible replacement for the Algerian captain who spent 5 years at the club.
The French club value Doku at €55million and have had a bid from West Ham rejected earlier this month.
According to SkySports News, the Hammers are unlikely to re-enter the race following a major interest from City.
The 21-year-old has already scored in his first two games for Rennes this season, having scored six goals in Ligue 1 last season.
Doku could become City’s third major summer signing after the arrivals of Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic, with the Croatian pair costing a combined £107.6m.
